Google gives restaurants direct control over ordering providers

Google has added a setting that lets restaurants turn specific ordering providers on or off in Google Business Profile. The change affects what customers see in Search and Maps.

Google has added a new control for restaurants in Google Business Profile. According to Search Engine Journal, restaurants can now turn specific third party ordering providers on or off directly in the dashboard, affecting what appears on their profiles in Search and Maps.

The report says the setting is available in all countries, based on a reply from a Google product manager in comments on a LinkedIn post announcing the update.

What changed

Before this update, a restaurant could request removal of a provider from inside Business Profile, but the provider had to process that request. Google’s help documentation for ordering options gave providers five business days to remove the link.

Now, the Business Profile dashboard includes a provider management setting with separate controls for pickup and delivery. Search Engine Journal reported that Google’s current policy page says merchants may enable or disable individual provider integrations through product controls, while also noting that partner integrations are enabled by default when first set up.

What it means for your website

If you run a restaurant, this gives you more direct control over how customers place orders from your Google listing. A provider you do not want to show can now be disabled for pickup, delivery, or both, without waiting on that provider to act first.

For business owners, this is mostly a visibility and operations issue rather than a website change. Your Google Business Profile can send people to ordering options that may or may not fit your margins or workflow, so the provider list under Food ordering is now something worth checking regularly.

What to do now

  • If you manage a restaurant profile, open Google Business Profile and review the provider list under Food ordering.
  • Check each listed provider and confirm whether it should appear for pickup, delivery, or both.
  • Remember that partner integrations are enabled by default, so review new or existing integrations instead of assuming the current setup matches your preferences.
  • If you still want a provider removed from a feed entirely, monitor whether the provider also processes that request on its side, since Google’s current policy still says providers must drop restaurants that ask to be removed from their feed.
  • Watch for updates to Google’s help pages, because Search Engine Journal noted that the help page about the Remove link option did not yet explain the newer customer display control, and it was not clear whether the feature would work in bulk or through the Business Profile API.
